Brad Pitt, Still a Babe in "Moneyball"

Brad Pitt plays Oakland Athletics' general manager Billy Beane in this weekend's movie Moneyball and he's not even a big fan of the sport!

"It’s shameful how little I know about baseball ... I’m amazed they let me do this movie. Baseball and I didn’t get along that well. I wrestled one year [in high school]. I dove one year. Everything but baseball," Pitt told Sports Illustrated, which he appears on the cover of this month.

Pitt says he's "a sucker for the underdog story" which is why he was interested in taking on the role. Despite the Oakland A's financial constraints, Beane used sabermetric principles to run the team cost effectively. However, Beane has yet to win a World Series, or even appear in one, as a general manager.

"What we were trying to do is tell an unconventional story in the Trojan horse of a conventional baseball movie," explained Pitt.

The film is based on Michael Lewis' book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game and also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, and Jonah Hill.
