Karen Gillan and Deborah Ann Woll Are Red Hot (POLL)

Television is brimming with beautiful brunettes and breathtaking blondes, but red haired ladies are far less common thanks to stereotypes about creepy gingers and ugly red heads. However, that may soon change thanks to the lovely and talented Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) and Karen Gillan (Doctor Who), two rising stars who are red hot.

Deborah Ann Woll plays vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood. Though the 26-year-old beauty is actually a natural blonde, Woll makes a striking red head. In fact, the actress began dying her hair in order to get noticed.

“I was bullied a lot and really didn't feel attractive,” Woll said in an interview with New York Magazine. “Being so pale and so blonde, I just disappeared, so I started dying my hair red when I was about 14.”

Woll, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, appeared in ER, CSI, and My Name is Earl before joining the cast of True Blood. The popular vampire show proved to be Deborah’s big break and the red-haired beauty has since appeared in a number of movies including Catch .44, Little Murder, Highland Park, and He Loves Me. Hailing from Scotland, natural red head Karen Gillan appeared in a handful of shows and films before landing the role of Amy Pond in the British science fiction series Doctor Who. Gillan, like Woll, was also bullied as a child due to her looks.

“I remember walking down the corridor and someone going, ‘Eurgh, you're tall, lanky and ginger!’” Gillan told UK’s Metro.

The 24-year-old actress has won a number of awards for her role in Doctor Who, receiving nods from Cosmopolitan as well as the SFX Awards and the TV Choice Awards. In December, Gillan announced she will be leaving Doctor Who along with co-star Arthur Darvill. The actress enjoyed a successful career as a model before breaking into film, walking for designer Allegra Hicks in the 2007 London Fashion Week, and fans may see her on the catwalk again someday.
