Hot Olympic Javelin Thrower, Leryn Franco

Paraguay’s Leryn Franco may be one of the most-searched Olympians, but the 30-year-old athlete is much more than a champion javelin thrower. Franco is also a renowned model and pageant queen, accomplishments that helped earn her the unofficial title of “world’s hottest Olympian.”

“I am not just an athlete,” Franco told Yahoo Sports. “Modeling and fashion is my job, too. It is flattering to me that people find me good-looking and enjoy seeing me wearing good fashion items."

Leryn wore a few good, albeit skimpy, fashion items in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, an appearance that won her a big following in America. Franco has also competed in the Miss Bikini Universe pageant and was the first runner-up in Miss Universe Paraguay 2006. The model-athlete also has lucrative endorsement deal with Nike.

Though Leryn may be better known for modeling than javelin throwing, she’s certainly no slouch on the field. Leryn participated in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, and will compete in the Women’s Javelin Throw this Tuesday (August 7th). In June, Franco achieved a personal best throw of 57.77 meters, winning second place at the Ibero-American Championships. However, despite this accomplishment, Leryn doesn’t expect to take a home an Olympic medal.

"I am not expecting a medal," Franco said. "The competition is very strong and there are athletes who are stronger than me. But I treat it seriously and I want to do my personal best. For me the best reward is just to be here. Getting to the Olympics is like a medal for me."

We at G10 wish Leryn Franco the best of luck!
