Natalie Portman is up for an Oscar this year for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for her part in Black Swan. She’s also currently in theaters with another, more lighthearted film, starring opposite Ashton Kutcher in the romantic comedy No Strings Attached. But she’s more than “just an actress.” Let’s find out more about this hottie.

Born Natalie Hershlag, Portman is an Israeli-American actress. Her first role was as an orphan taken in by a hitman in the 1994 French action film Leon. During the 1990s, she also had roles in the films Anywhere But Here and Beautiful Girls, before being cast as Padme Amidala (Aka Queen Amidala) in the Star Wars prequel-trilogy.  In 1999, Portman enrolled at Harvard University to study psychology while working on the Star Wars films (always good to have a back-up plan, though it looks like she won’t be needing it for a while).

Portman completed her bachelor’s degree in 2003. In 2005, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Closer. She shaved her head for the film V for Vendetta, and won the Golden Globe this year for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for Black Swan.

She is currently engaged to ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied, and the couple are expecting their first child.
