Generally speaking, it’s usually a bad thing for any member of congress or politician to be photographed without certain pieces of clothing. This time, however, it’s a good thing! Republican congressman from Illinois Aaron Schock is gracing the cover of this month’s Men’s Health magazine. If you think the combination of congressman+shirtless+magazine is a little unusual, you’re definitely not alone.
Schock says that he maintains a fit lifestyle and an ultra-ripped body because he wants the rest of Americans to get fit too. He’s working with Men’s Health on the Fit for Life Summer Challenge.
He stays in shape by first running 5 miles a day – and he starts early, at 6:30 a.m. “It’s got to happen early or it’s not going to happen,” he says. He also hits the House gym where he takes in sessions of weight training and the popular exercise DVD program, P90X.
“When I first saw it I kind of laughed,” he says of P90X. “I didn’t think you could get a real workout from a DVD. But at 6:30 a.m., it helps to have somebody talking you through your workout.”
The Fit For Life Summer Challenge aims to help Americans take control of their health – the program is designed to help people lose 10, 20, or 30 pounds, and help lessen the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and many other diseases.
Now, enough about fitness and politics, let’s see that 6-pack!
