Jennifer Lawrence, at just 20 years old, has already been nominated for an Academy Award. It was announced earlier this week that she had nabbed the lead role in The Hunger Games (and presumably, its two sequel movies), but since Lawrence is so new to the scene, it seems we know barely anything about this gorgeous young actress. Let’s find out a bit more about her!
Jennifer Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990, in Kentucky. She started pursuing an acting career at the early age of 14. In 2006, Lawrence was cast as Lauren Pearson in the TBS comedy The Bill Engvall Show. The sitcom lasted three seasons and was cancelled in 2009.
Her breakout performance, however, was in 2010’s Winter’s Bone. In the film, she portrays a 17-year-old girl in the rural Ozarks who is caring for her mentally ill mother as well as her two young siblings when she discovers that her drug-addicted father has put their house and land up as bond for a court appearance.
Her next role is in the dark dramedy The Beaver, which also stars Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster. Interestingly enough, Lawrence has never taken drama lessons or acting lessons, saying that she simply relies on her instincts when playing a role.
At just 20, it’s likely that Lawrence will be around for many years to come, so keep your eyes peeled!
